In essence the law on bird control is simple – All birds are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act (1981) that protection also extends to their eggs and nests.
Where it becomes more complex is the exceptions to that rule. The provision for the exceptions is set out in licenses which allow for taking or killing of birds and their eggs/nests if they meet a set of defined criteria.
